i wish i could drive

Friday, 14 May 2010

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming– “Wow! What a Ride!”

on the subject of drivers

this is eugene and if it wasn't for him i wouldn't be working in prague right now
he very kindly drove me through the night from Portugal to Bilbao to catch the ferry whilst the planes were grounded during the volcanic cloud
he's a lovely man an ex long distance lorry driver and semi-pro rally driver, more importantly he has 3 children with 3 different wives, he is raising the children himself and all the ex wives get on together and regularly meet up?!?!?!
maybe i'll make the DRIVER BOOK like top trumps listing qualities etc

Eugene your a demi god

im making a photographic book about the people that pick you up from the airport THE DRIVERS they are the first people and the last people you meet when working abroad
more than often they are the drivers for the whole job and i consider them the unsung heroes, there have been fantastic moments of exchange ideas, life stories, lighting suggestions and near death experiences
they are legends the book will feature simply portraits and transcribes of recorded conversations featuring our first conversation on arrival and our parting conversation back at the airport

lying down on the job
